Muhammad Umair
builds backend systems
that don't fall over.
Software engineer focused on APIs, infrastructure, and the unglamorous plumbing that keeps products running at 3am. Based in Austin, TX.
About
I've spent the last six years building backend systems for companies that grew faster than their infrastructure could handle — which meant a lot of time rebuilding things under load, without downtime, while everyone was watching a dashboard turn red.
These days I care most about systems that are easy to reason about at 3am: clear service boundaries, honest error messages, and dashboards that tell the truth. I like APIs that are boring in the best way, and I've never met a queue I didn't want to profile.
Outside of work I mentor junior engineers, contribute to a couple of open-source CLI tools, and am slowly losing a war against my home network's config drift.
